Some of you have been wondering where I have been. It has been a very busy few weeks with my jobs that I have not had time to post anything anything interesting to post about. Well, I am back! and I am so excited to share a project of mine with you! The photo above is hint of something I have been wanting to do for awhile now and I can finally share the end results!!!!
Once upon a time I was in high school and took an art class. In this art class there was an assignment to create a mosaic table top. You might have seen that table in my older post from when I first moved out of my parents house.... here . Well, some person, that may or may not be me, not fully using their reasoning skills and thought it would be cool to use that same table as and outdoor table at the new house. Well, who knew that rain and the weight of the tile would warp the wood it was glued to. So for quite sometime now I have been wanting to create a new table top and have finally done so.
I first bought some bags of glass stones at Joann's in the colors I and my sister desired. Here are a few patterns that I tried out at first.
I then realized that I needed a form for the two boxes of mix that I had also bought from Joann's.
Well, the only thing I found that I felt was a good size was this plastic potted plant tray.
One website I read, said that to aid in the removal of the stone you should use petroleum jelly and cover the mold.
For the mix itself you will need something to mix with, gloves (wet cement can burn your skin), something to cover your nose and mouth (cement mix can be harmful if breathed in), and water. Oh, and something to mix it in! I was able to get this bucket from work. I really didn't want to ruin any good ones we had at home. The only bad thing about this bucket was that the lid wouldn't come off and I ended up having to cut the hole in the top. Ashley got a good chuckle out of my determination to use that bucket for my project.
After I had it all mixed, The instructions said I had about a good hour to set in my pattern once I had the cement ready.
Then it was time to wait. the instructions said at least 24hrs. One other website said two weeks. Well, I restrained myself for one week.
That one week was enough! I just love it! The base is the same old plant stand from before. The pattern is not exactly as I had it laid out.... I kind of got lost and had to make it up on the spot, but I love it anyway.
And, it looks so good between the two upright chairs. Now, next project.... repainting the chairs.
