So, here I sit, stage makeup still on, hair looking like I stuck my finger in a light socket and just plain tired. Just another night at home after getting done with dress rehearsal, the last rehearsal before opening day.
I am currently performing Phantom, (the American Musical Sensation) with Modesto Performing Arts. Doing a show again has been at times a lot of fun, and at others, frustrating. I found this quote that sums up a bit of how theatre is.
"You really, really, really have to love what you are going to do in theatre because it is an unmerciful life. It's six days a week. It's eight performances a week. And that's doing the exact same thing over and over and over again."
Harvey Fierstein
Well, we are not doing eight performances a night. But we definitely have had our share of doing the same thing over and over and over again. I lost count of the times that I have had to walk from point A to point B just to start over at A again.
In order to walk from A to B I have had to do a lot of saying "I can't.... I have rehearsal". "I can't work that shift, I have rehearsal". "I can't see that show tonight, I have rehearsal". "I can't talk much longer, I have rehearsal". And yet, I don't mind. In fact, I am sad that I have to start up work again. I don't mind missing a t.v show as it is just summer programing, where I can mostly pick up at anytime if I desire. Now, talking to people, yes I wish I could hang out and or talk with people more, but some of the stories that I can bring into conversation later are just great!

Well, lets hope that all of the work has paid off. Opening day is tomorrow, aka today seeing that it is after midnight. So I'll shall say goodnight. I can't stay up too late.... I have.... a performance.
